Well, it's about 9 weeks late, but I'm finally posting that Casey Brian Goccia is here! I have tried numerous times to update the blog but something has always hindered me! He was born at 8:23 PM on Friday, July 24th. He weighed 7.5 pounds and was 20 inches long. I woke up at 2:15 AM on the 24th with uncomfortable contractions (meaning I was not able to sleep through them anymore). I packed hospital bags and tried to rest as much as possible until we left for the hospital at 7:30 AM. I wanted to stay at home longer but we were afraid that if we waited too long that Bangkok traffic would be really bad. We arrived at the hospital and they put me on the table to monitor Casey's heartbeat. At 8:05 AM I felt Casey give me a huge kick and my water broke. I labored until I couldn't handle it anymore at 4:10 PM. The contractions were so close together and so intense that I had no time to rest in between. The doctor came in to check me and I almost started crying when he told me I was only at 4 maybe 5 centimeters. This is exactly what happened when I was in labor with Josiah and I ended up having a c-section with him. My doctor knew that I wanted to avoid a c-section so he suggested trying an epidural. I quickly agreed :) and within 5 minutes of receiving the epidural I was feeling much better. By 7:10 PM I was fully dilated and ready to start pushing. Casey finally arrived at 8:23 PM! It was certainly a physical challenge but I'm so glad that we did not have another c-section. I have to add that there is absolutely no way I could have done it without my coach, Aaron. It was hard on me physically but it was hard on him emotionally and mentally. He was amazing! He was so encouraging and really helped keep me focused.
I always like to know why people give children their names. We liked the name "Casey" for it's meaning - "vigilant" or "strong". And we got his middle name (Brian - "noble") from his cousin who died at birth. Life has been crazy since Casey has joined the family, but we are so grateful for another healthy baby boy. Josiah has done remarkably well with the new intruder! :) He really is a great big brother and a huge help to Mommy. Here are some pictures of Casey and Josiah since we got back home to Chiang Mai.
Sorry the blog has been neglected lately. I'll try to do better in the future...it's just low on the priority list these days.
